2010? Fables (4 book Collection). CD offering pdf files of Francis Barlow (1687), Thomas Bewick (1878), Ernest Griset (c. 1869), and Guy Wetmore Carroll's Fables for the Frivolous (1900). Planet-E-Tech. Purchased online.
This CD comes from a time when computer afficionados were eager to employ their skills in translating old books into digital form. As they appear on the computer screen, these files were, to me, offputting. Once they are reduced to about 70% of their original size, they take on more of the sharpness of their originals. The Peter Newell illustrations for "Fables for the Frivolous" remain, I believe, overly dark. Griset seems to me always to be overly dark. Why someone would digitize a later edition of Bewick from 1878 and not a first edition is unclear to me. Viewing Barlow will always be a pleasure!
1972 "Fabled Isles" Mardi Gras doubloon. Comus. Gift of Jonathan Singer, Bronx, NY, through Ebay, Oct., '99.
On one side there is pictured and captioned "The Golden Cup of Comus," with a nice Latin phrase: "Sic volo, sic jubeo." Apparently the Comus krewe began in 1857. The fabled isles side of the coin shows an island with a classical temple wreathed in laurel. Before it lie a ship, a lyre, and two vases. What a lovely gift!
1993 Stole Featuring Fable Scenes. Eric Heinzen, student in CLC 325 at Creighton University.
Eric brought together two dear facets of my life: priestly ministry and fables. Among the fables recalled here are TH; TT; LM; “Three Fish”; “Stag at the Pool”; “Retired Rat”; FG; BF; “Heron”; and OR. I offer two close-ups from a treasured creation.
1913 Fable Series--51 to 100. A.T.C. Turkish Trophies Cigarettes. I have 49 of the 50 cards in the set. Most cards marked by the factory from which they were distributed, e.g. Factory No 7, 3rd Dist., State N.Y. 44 of the cards for £64.90 from Murray Cards International, Cecil Court, London, August, '97. Other cards through Ebay from Don Anthony, Phoenix, OR; Mary Brush, Colby, KS; Darrell Dirr, Middletown, NY; Ron and Kathleen Hamill, Wakefield, RI; Josh Harris, Novato, CA; Andrea Howell, Bangor, PA; Glenn W. Kennedy, Flagler Beach, FL; Bill Miller, Fort Collins, CO; Teresa Poole, Springfield, MO; and Chris Stetzer, Red Lion, PA.
Delightful colored pictures and simple, straightforward tellings. Like Murray, I arrange them alphabetically. I find no way to identify a number on the cards themselves. About 2¾" x 3 1/8". Though it may be disguised here through clever cropping, most of these cards have bumped corners. In this set, there are several cards in fair and even poor condition. For this set, I have had to work hard on Ebay to find cards not available from Murray and to improve on some in the Murray set that were of lesser quality. For a long time, I have been missing one card: "The Lark and Her Young." I finally found it on eBay for $20 in Oct., '02. Among some pleasing art, my prizes for visual effect here go to "The Eagle and the Jackdaw," "The Goatherd and the Goat," "The Monkey and the Camel," "The Quack Frog," and "The Wolf and the Shepherds."
1913 Fable Series--1 to 50. A.T.C. Turkish Trophies Cigarettes. Most cards marked by the factory from which they were distributed, e.g. Factory No 7, 3rd Dist., State N.Y. £82.50 for a full set from Murray Cards International, Cecil Court, London, August, '97. Other cards through Ebay from Don Anthony, Phoenix, OR; Ron and Kathleen Hamill, Wakefield, RI; Josh Harris, Novato, CA; Andrea Howell, Bangor, PA; Glenn W. Kennedy, Flagler Beach, FL; Bill Miller, Fort Collins, CO; Teresa Poole, Springfield, MO; and Chris Stetzer, Red Lion, PA.

1950? Fable Pillow Cover made of Marvic Cotton Fabric. 15.75" square. Unknown source.
Here are six scenes from Marvic's pattern of eight scenes, shown in this collection under "Individual Cloths." Here we have pictured "The Fox and the Bust"; "The Traveler and the Satyr"; BS; "The Bear and the Grieving Lioness"; "The Fighting Bulls and the Frogs"; and "The Oyster and the Litigants." Plain tan backing.
1900? Metal lockbox “il sont trop verts” with fable illustrations on top and four sides. 10.5” x7.5” x 4.75” high. Key is missing. Unknown source.
FG on the top. FC “Two Goats”; WL; and “The Rat Who Retired from the World” on the sides. I suspect that this was meant for a child and was not originally a container for some marketable product. The illustrations may easily have been “borrowed” from some traditional source.
