Abstract

en_US This book stands between two already in the collection. Except for several specific changes at beginning and end, it is identical with a volume dated to 1951. Indeed, it shares that date on its identical cover. But this title-page has "1950" where that has "1951," and the colophon on the last page is different; even the price went up in the one year's difference! We do have a book with identical data as this copy, but it lacks crucial pages and is in very poor condition. This volume thus fits nicely between the two. As I wrote of the 1951 copy, FC is on the title-page, across from the frontispiece portrait of Krylov. The book seems a standard presentation of Krylov's fables, with a rich assortment of A. Laptyev's 1947 illustrations. It has an AI of titles at the end before the T of C, which lists seventy-eight fables on the book's 147 pages. The illustrations are full-page black-and-white presentations, and I count eighteen of them here plus the title-page's nineteenth. The book has five lovely silhouettes on its front cover and a canvas binding.
