- Abstract
- en_US With 12 original color lithographs (some double-page) and a suite of 12 orig. proofs of these lithographs in different states by Jean Dufy. 28 unnumbered leaves. Royal 4to. Loose sheets as issued in their original printed chemise in the original half cloth box. #10 of 25 numbered copies, signed by the artist. Typography and printing by Philippe Gonin on his own press at 15, rue Lille, Paris. Jean Dufy (1888-1964) is, besides his brother Raoul, one of the chief representatives the post-impressionist artists of the École de Paris. One of the early and very rare works of the Paris Gonin press. Not in Bodemann. The twelve fables presented here are “The Confident Parrot”; “Two Cats”; “The Coquette and the Bee”; “The Linnet and the Turtledove”; “The Fox Disguised”; “The Author and the Mice”; “The Cat and the Rats”; “The Voyage”; “The Tight-Rope Walker and the Pole”; “The Two Lions”; “Pan and Fortune”; and “The Mirror and Truth.” My prizes for the most engaging illustrations here go to “The Confident Parrot”; “The Coquette and the Bee”; “Pan and Fortune”; and especially “The Voyage.”
