- Abstract
- en_US Here is an unusual book in several ways. First, it is an oversize landscape-formatted book 12½" x 9½". Secondly, the coloration of its twelve illustrations is unusual. The result is almost like what might happen if one applied crayon colors over each other. The effect is different from that of other coloration methods I am aware of. The four fables are WL, WC, FS, and "Two Rats and an Egg." The three illustrations for the last of these are my favorites. The book offers first the full La Fontaine text. Then for each fable there are three full-page illustrations, each across from a featured line or two from the fable. This method works particularly well with the last fable's last illustration, whose text is simply "Trop tard!" I am surprised that I have not run into this book before this time. Its spine is weak.
