- Abstract
- en_US Which is more correct: "The Mouse Tribe" or "The Rat Tribe"? This two-staple pamphlet offers TMCM; "The Rat and the Oyster"; and "The Rat and the Elephant." Each has about eight full pages of illustrations for a child to color. Unfortunately, the first four pages are lacking -- except for the fortunate remnant indicating a date of publication. At the base of each illustration are several lines of prose text filling out the fable. The most adventuresome expansion has the rat envisioning his adventures around the world as a sailor, camel-rider, and scholar. One of the best images is of the human body of the "rat" with hands and feet outside the oyster's grip. The last image in the last fable has the rat dangling from the cat's mouth. A young hand tried out different colored crayons on the first remaining page. At the end of each presentation is the verse text of La Fontaine's fable. "C-150." About 8¼" x 11¼".
