- Abstract
- en_US Here is a large (11"x16½") booklet containing inside its covers 18 newsprint sheets by Paul Colin, each presenting one fable by Jean de La Fontaine. I have eleven of these as separate broadsides elsewhere in the collection (https://www.creighton.edu/aesop/artifacts/printedmaterial/broadsides/imageriesreuniesdejarvillenancy/). Those repeaters are "The Rat Who Retired from the World"; BC; "Death and the Woodman"; "The Acorn and the Pumpkin"; GA; "The Old Man and Three Youths"; TH; FK; FG; "The Old Cat and the Young Mouse"; and "The Cook and the Swan." The seven new presentations are: "The Shepherd and the Sea"; "The Coach and the Fly"; OF; "The Lion Grown Old"; GGE; "The Thieves and the Ass"; and "The Monkey and the Cat." Among my favorites are "Death and the Woodman"; "The Shepherd and the Sea"; and "The Old Man and Three Youths." This object is very delicate, and its paper is very thin. The seller notes that there may have been manual coloring on the first fable.
