- Abstract
- en_US This 9" square book of 40 pages is a pleasant remake of BW. Betsy, the town baker's daughter, has become the town shepherd, and she takes her job seriously. Unfortunately, she is up against a wolf who is not only hungry but clever. Zimmo twice appears, and each time Betsy cries "Wolf," only to find when people arrive that Zimmo has disappeared. The third appearance is an attack by the clever Zimmo, but he is distracted by the aroma of Betsy's lunch pie slices. Betsy offers him both her slices. Zimmo and Betsy soon become partners. In fact, Zimmo shepherds the lambs wonderfully when she is distracted. Part of the fun of this book lies in the comments by the sheep, like the young one at the beginning saying "I hope the new shepherd isn't strict." At the end of the story sheep offer five good morals, and the same young lamb gets the last word: "A story with too many morals is like a book that won't end."
