- Abstract
- en_US I began reading this book skeptical about whether it really does contain fables in our normal rather limited sense. Two of the three stories I read, "Lord of the Sabari Hills" (5) and "Like Husband, Like Wife" (71) are rather stories of the divine or legends. The third story comes closer, though it is still a story of the power of faith. "The Bundle, You Fool!" (123) tells of an eager student who thinks a brush-off from a famous snake healer is the revelation of his personal snake-healing mantra. That mantra is the story's title, and the poor boy uses it to become highly successful. One day his master encounters him and is stupefied to find that his brush-off has led to such success. He realizes then that it was really about the power of the faith of his "pupil." Since "fable" is actually in the title, I include the book.
