- Abstract
- en_US This is Volume 3 of 6 volumes, 3¾" x 5¾", comprising Books V and VI. There is nothing here beyond the fables. The illustrations are numbered #97 through #138. Among those I find strongest are "The Horse and Wolf" (14); "The Eagle and Owl" (26); TB (29); and "The Horse and Ass" (55). This set helps show the second-earliest instance of the Vivier illustrations I first encountered in the 1881 English translations of La Fontaine, where they are coupled with those of Le Rat. The seller notes the beauty of the binding with comments I quote under the first volume of the six.
