- Abstract
- en_US There was a fascinating clue in our copy of "19 fables de renard," first published in 2000 and reprinted in 2004. The text and illustrations had an original copyright of 1983. This recent acquisition develops that clue. That book had this predecessor in 1983 named "Dix-neuf fables de renard." The texts and interior illustrations are the same. What changed from this edition to that one are these things. The format of this earlier copy is slightly smaller, 4½" x 6½" as against the later 4⅞" x 6⅞". This earlier copy has 159 pages, while that has 116 + 12. The typeface is smaller. This older book has a different ISBN number. The later book will add a list of "Castor-Poche" books and a vita for Muzi, Franquin, and Pudles. Within Castor-Poche books, I find six that have similar titles, all written by Muzi. As I wrote a propos of the later edition of this book, the nineteen prose fables here are really fables. What a delight! Half are familiar. The illustration work is successful here. About half of the stories come from "The Roman de Renard." Several fables that are new to me are "Renard et la panthère"; "Renard, la vache et le lion"; "Renard et l'ours"; and "Renard, l'ours et le paysan." This early copy is significantly marked up by a language-learner, and several pages are loose. I'm delighted to save it from the trash bin!
