- Abstract
- en_US I had one of those embarrassing experiences as I looked into this book, with its wonderfully vigorous illustrations. The lion on the cover has hair something like Medusa's! That vigor is sustained through the 12 illustrations. A note after the list of fables following the title-page confuses me. According to the note, each of these twelve fables is illustrated to evoke one of the months of the year. It also refers to them as "dites par Alain Rigout." Might the book have come with a CD? And which fable belongs to which month? I took to the web to see if I could learn something. It was easy to find information on Suret-Canal, described as a surrealist artist. I tried adding "fables" to her name as I searched. What comes up but "Creighton University"! I had catalogued these very images on calendar cards just a couple of months ago! And here they are, together with the identifications that she gave to them five years later. It turns out that the lion is so worked up over a mosquito. My other prizes go to OR and WL.
