- Abstract
- en_US This large (8¼" x 11¼") children's book does a lovely job of demonstrating La Fontaine's fable. The mouse is at first kept home. Only then does it get out to explore -- and explore it does! The text and illustrations set the mouse up well for the surprise encounter with the two creatures. Perhaps the two best illustrations are those picturing the mouse's description of first the rooster and then the cat, neither of which young Mäusefranz has experienced before. The mother-mouse's reaction is well prepared and strongly delivered. Perfect for children is the depiction of Mäusefranz in the cat's belly!
