- Abstract
- en_US This book is one of those "steals" that come up sometimes on Ebay. This is a lovely substantial book which did not make it beyond the beginning price. Lucky us! As I check, I seem to find out that it was listed several times previously without any bidders, and we were the only bidders this time around. I may have missed it earlier because of the "Easop" misspelling. The book starts with an immense foldout of the battle between the birds and the beasts. There follow eighteen other fables, including "The Bat in the Battle of the Birds and Beasts"; AD; TMCM; WL; "The Goat and the Wolf"; "The Drowning Schoolboy"; SS; SW; "The Fox and the Lion"; "The Larks and the Harvest"; CP; GA; MM; "The Fox, the Rooster, and the Dog"; and MSA. The multiple artists make for a variety of styles on these big pages 10" square. The stories range from two to eight pages in size, with illustrations reaching across facing pages. My prize for best illustrations goes to T. Tan for his illustrations of SW, including the glorious multicolored picture of the sun removing the man's cape on 45-46. Imported for sale by Charles B. Tuttle Company in New York.
