- Abstract
- en_US Here is an intact copy of this book, a poorer copy of which I had found earlier. There are indeed twelve silhouette images: FG; TH; "The Rabbit, the Weasel, and the Cat"; LM; WC; FC; "The Cat and the Monkey"; WL' "Two Goats"; MM; "The Heron"; and TT. The full list of twelve fables appears here, as there, on the bottom of the second-to-last page of print. They are all presented in color on the back cover. There are colored sheets of translucent paper at the front and back of the pamphlet. One is to cut out sections of these to fill in various portions of the white spaces of each illustration. The back cover's illustrations and the circular title-page illustration of FG remain my favorites. What a clever idea! The effect, I imagine, is like that of seeing stained glass. This book differs from that one in its last page of print. That had "Paris Imp. Henon 6-36," while this has "Paris Imp. Henon 7-37," The books advertised on this page are also different. There is also a change on the title-page. "Compositions de la Louve" has become "Compositions de LaLouve." I now recognize that this is the name of the artist! This volume was purchased in Paris by one of the two bookstore owners for his daughter when they lived there.
