- Abstract
- en_US This oversized pamphlet is related to two others in the collection, both also by Les Éditions des Enfants de France, but both in 1945. I am not sure I had ever before seen this booklet's cover of GA by Urbain Raymond -- until I saw it offered by a Parisian seller this summer. I bypassed that offer in my brief days in Paris but was happy to see the pamphlet show up again. I paid too much for this work in poor condition, but it is good to get it into the collection. It seems internally very close to the 1945 "Recueil" featuring a heron on its cover. Differences include a different cover title, though with the same interior title as here. This copy also has sixteen pages, not 32. Next there is the rather garish blue-purple in most of the illustrations here. A mystery that continues from there is how to read the name of the creator of the illustration for "Sick Lion and Fox": Daxnèlet, Orynèlet, Drynèlet? This illustration is in itself unusual, as it shows a male fox arguing with a female fox in front of the lion's cave. As I wrote of that earlier version, this is an oversized pamphlet 9½" x 12¼". There are the same eight full pages of full-colored illustrations: FS, GGE, "The Drowning Boy and the Pedant," "The Lion and the Hunter," TMCM, "The Cook and the Goose," "The Sick Lion and the Fox," and WC. Urbain Raymond created five of the illustrations. Like the two related volumes, it lists "Authorization No 155."
