Abstract: en_US Here is the first of the Barnes Readers that I have found containing fables. Fables included here are "The Dove and the Bee" (88); The Cat, the Monkey and the Chestnuts" (102); "The Cat and the Birds" (123); "The Dog and the Wolf" (148); and GGE (173). None are illustrated. "The Dove and the Bee" is a form of the more usual AD. "The Dog and the Wolf" features the key initiative "Come back when I am better fed." The book is missing 105-6 and 137-8.
