- Abstract
- en_US Here is an inexpensive presentation of all five books of Florian's fables along with his epilogue. This edition contains twelve illustrations by Bertall. Bertall is a nom de plume for Charles-Albert d'Arnoux (1820-82). This collection has his La Fontaine edition from about 1850, published by Barba. French Wikipedia describes him as an illustrator, caricaturist, and engraver -- one of the most productive illustrators of the nineteenth century. He was also one of the pioneers of photography. His illustrations here include: Fable and Truth (18); The Cat and the Telescope (35); The Young Man and the Old Man (37); The Blind Man and the Lame (40); The Wild Boar and the Nightingales (74); The Nightingale and the Peacock (78); The Miser and His Son (110); The Rabbit and the Teal (114); The Two Bald Men (118); The Little Dog (136); The Crocodile and the Sturgeon (140); and The Wasp and the Bee (146). It is good to see them enlarged, but they are not well rendered.
