Abstract

en_US Here is an excellent piece of work! Eleven fables and a prolog are presented in the body of this pamphlet, with five more fables in an appendix. Two at least (FC and WL) include among their materials later developments by LaFontaine and Lessing. Various approaches to the fables work on contrasts and poetic compositional techniques. Good simple illustrations along the way allow the student to work, even before analyzing language, from a concrete picture. Phaedrus' Latin seems to be slightly simplified. I wish we had something like this in English!
