Abstract: en_US A smaller replica of the same title in 1985 by Dutton, with watercolors slightly less well done. Meg calls attention to the lovely pun near the end: By a hair's breadth. This is indeed an enchanting book, with lovely colored plates matched on opposite pages by sketches. If I had to choose one of my books for some bedside reading with kids looking on, this might well be the book.
