Lindy pictures fetchingly the tortoise's candy-striped shirt under the shell. The illustrator may hurt the presentation somewhat when she pictures the goal as within sight from the very start of the bet. Note the text's statement The hare leapt out of sight. The best illustrations may be the second and third full spreads: the bunny is jolly and the tortoise engaging.
