- Abstract
- en_US This book looks like the privately published work of a devotee. The book presents eighty-two fables in rhymed verse. Perhaps a third of them are illustrated. The rhythm seems to tend heavily to anapests. I do not think that these are classic translations. I see them more as a delightful hobby. The Hare with Many Friends joins the canon here of Aesopic fables (101). Among the illustrations, perhaps that for The Fisher and the Little Fish (108) might be most typical. The illustration for OF (56) seems to me to be inspired by Heighway's work. The preface puts Phaedrus about 400 A.D. Not in Bodemann. I am a bit surprised that I had never heard of this book before. I suspect that there are not many copies extant.
