- Abstract
- en_US This is a large-format book for children. It has 93 pages and a T of C at the end. The range of fabulists is considerable. Besides the four mentioned on the title-page, there are fables from Florian, Serdonati, Pancrazi, Krylov, Bechstein, Marotta, Croce, Horace, Palazzi, Thurber, and Trilussa. Besides, there are fables from China, Anatolia, South America, Romania, Toscana, Czechoslovakia, and Russia. Finally, besides an anonymous fable, there is material from the Zen tradition and from 1001 Nights. The visuals are big and colorful. For each fable, there is an introductory sentence or two, often relating the fable to a proverb. La favola del tordo, ascribed here (4) to Francesco Serdonati, is actually in the Aesopic corpus as Perry #576. Most of the fables are one page long. Watch out: sometimes two fables on facing pages use the same illustration(s). This is a pleasing book.
