- Abstract
- en_US Here is an oversized hardbound book of some 61 pages presenting caricatures with texts based on La Fontaine's fables. Luc Besson, apparently a frequent writer for Éditions Intervista, offers a verse preface entitled La Fable et lEnfant. Rampal also has an introductory two pages titled Fabuleux! The first fable is Le Corbeau et le Renardeau, featuring Chirac (C) and Sarkozy (F). In the fable itself, they become Jacquot and Sarko. The illustration is well matched to a text clearly derived from La Fontaine's FC. One needs, of course, to know both French politics and the physical looks of the main players. The whole thing is witty, clever, fun. The second-to-last fable is La Chêne, les Glands et le Roseau, where the oak is De Gaulle, the acorns are his fans, and the reed is un quidam. The point of their two pages of discussion is that, when the great oak falls, an acorn gets an answer to his despairing question What will I become? That answer is an adult. The following page has six more images of De Gaulle, including De Gaulle as an elephant, a samovar, a mountain, and as Louis XIV. In case we were wondering, the last page -- across from a T of C -- gives us images of Rampal and Morchoisne as, respectively, an ape and a squirrel. Lively stuff!
