Abstract

en_US The first two volumes of Pierre Ruelle's "Recueil Général des Isopets," from 1982 covering Macho appeared in 1929, and here they are. This valuable gathering of medieval collections includes, in this volume, L' Isopet de Lyon, L'Isopet I - Avionnet, and L'Isopet III. Also here are the Latin sources, the Romulus in verse attributed to Walter of England and the fables of Avianus. The first collections presented are thus, in Latin, the Romulus and Avianus. There follow in French: the Isopet de Lyon, the Isopet I-Avionnet, the Avionnet, and the Isopet III de Paris. Valuable early material includes two tables of correspondence. The first includes five collections, namely the three Isopets presented here (Isopet I in two versions) with the ordinary Romulus and Walter's Romulus (1). The second shows the correspondence between Avianus and "L'Avionnet (5). This paperbound version has this notice facing the title page of each volume: "Cette exemplaire a eté tiré pour la bibliothéque de M. Lawrence Slade." Slade's name and elements on the title page are in red ink, and the paper is, as the bookseller notes, "special." The volume's own note on the verso of the title-page reads "Tiré à vingt-cinq exemplaires sur ce papier." I felt lucky to find these volumes after my searching was done at Commonwealth. The pair was reduced from $150 to $60, and there was a 20% off sale going on. Many uncut pages. As with the hardbound copy, I will keep the second volume with the first, even though its title-page has a date of 1930.
