Abstract

en_US This is a large-format, sixteen-page pamphlet. Its version of the story brings several novelties. First, the mouse does not stumble across the sleeping lion; rather, he is in the lion's path after the lion has roared. He has not run away in fear like the other animals. When the lion asks why he should not eat the mouse, he hears I could be your friend (6). The lion answers that he does not need a tiny thing like the mouse as his friend. He even adds I don't need friends! (8). Other animals tell the mouse how lucky he has been not to be eaten. The mouse sees the trap as it is being made and wonders what to do, but just then the lion gets caught. The other animals do not want to help the lion because they fear being eaten. The lion first tells the mouse to go get help, but the mouse answers that he himself can help. And he does. Moral: A true friend is a friend that helps you (16). The cover repeats the final picture: the lion is licking the mouse.
