- Abstract
- en_US See the Oxford edition of 1981, a smaller pamphlet with much poorer runs of the illustrations. This book is a fine example of amplification; it takes forty-five pages to tell one fable! Ironically, there is only one step in the money-making process here, which is the amplified part in other versions. The step here is from the rooster and two hens which she will buy to the chickens which she will sell at the summer fair. The goal in her mind throughout is one particular dress for the Christmas dance. There she will dance with only one of her admirers. In the best illustration, the cat covers its eyes on 38.
