- Abstract
- en_US I am happy to include a copy of this classic in the collection. It presents fifty animal stories, divided by the opening T of C into stories and rhymes. Fables include well told versions of The Hare and the Hedgehog (3); The Mouse, the Bird, and the Sausage (11); The Wolf and the Fox (31); The Knight and the Greyhound (111); and The Dog and the Sparrow (160). The illustrations are taken from Topsell's Historie of Foure-Footed Beastes. Here is a curiosity. I had copied the flyleaf of the dust jacket, which proclaims Selected, edited and in part rewritten by Walter de la Mare. The title-page has rather Chosen, arranged, and in some part rewritten by Walter de la Mare. The cover, finally, has Chosen and Arranged by Walter de la Mare.
