- Abstract
- en_US A selection of seventy-eight fables for English-readers. Notes on vocabulary and sources (81) and advertisements for Holt's many French texts follow. Perhaps the most distinguishing feature of this book for us today lies in the way Delbos starts the book. He begins by vigorously condemning La Fontaine's character. He was not kind, modest, simple, careful, moral, or sensitive to children. Lazy, shrewd, and apathetic, he found it was easier to live at other people's expense.... Take heart, however. His style is matchless.
