- Abstract
- en_US This can seem to be the same as the 1951 book, but there are some fascinating things happening. First, the illustrations have changed. Many of Davis' illustrations seem to be modelled on Hubert Whatley's illustrations in 1951, but they are clearly new. Though pagination and texts have remained the same, the names of several fables (at least) have changed. Thus The Man and the Boy and the Donkey (1951) has become The Foolish Travelers (168 in both), The City Mouse and the Country Mouse has become The City Mouse's Guest (177), and The Foolish Dog and his Reflection has become The Dog's Reflection (178). For the fifteen fables, there are eight monochrome illustrations listed on 10. The most striking is the imitation of Weir's WC on 175. I am surprised that a book can change editors but still have all the same texts.
