- Abstract
- en_US Like other Creole presentations of fables which I have found, these fables have a charm all their own. The written text cannot, of course, carry the charm of hearing the familiar amid the unfamiliar, but some of that experience is there as one reads through these texts. This 118-page book in a form with which German academics are familiar presents 49 fables. After an introduction on 5, the book presents the numbered fables, with critical notes following on 55. After a section on the language of the fables, there is a glossary on 75-80. La Fontaine's original texts follow on 81, with a bibliography on 115 and a T of C on the last two pages. One has the fear that these charming dialects may be dying out in the not-too-distant future.
