- Abstract
- en_US Here is a curious book containing 1001 items, including, the introduction says (xvi), the fables of Florian and LaFontaine. The frontispiece shows an early train. There are nine fables here, each with a strong engraving. The story of the expanding frog (114) goes into detail in describing what is left after the explosion ( two flabby pieces of skin, a head, and a pair of legs )! FG (304) adds a housemaid who says she would not trust the fox with the grapes. The best of the illustrations may be The Fox and the Cock (183) and FWT (299).
