- Abstract
- en_US At last a first edition of this lovely book. A beautiful book with a full or half-page illustration for each of its thirty-six fables, plus twelve vignettes. Good satirical verse, though sometimes with unusual vocabulary. Great for poetry reading sessions! Among the best-told fables is The Eagle and the Owl (38). The best illustrations are of the lion in love (19), the mountain's delivery (23), the man and the wooden idol (41), the fox and the mask (47), the two doctors (51), women and secrets (75), the bear and the two crooks (85), and the man and the flea (87). T of C at the beginning. I mentioned to Theresa, who spends time in Lincoln, that I had seen the copy in Estuary; a few days later it was under the tree waiting for me!
