- Abstract
- en_US I have been reviewing a number of shorter books of Gellert's fables. By comparison, this volume makes several contributions. First, it seems to contain all the fables. They are organized in three books. Secondly, it contains twenty-four Chodowiecki illustrations. So far, I have not met a Gellert illustrator who could pass up Der Tanzbär (9)! There is a T of C at the back. It is perhaps an unusual book in that there is nothing but the fables, illustrations, and T of C. A note on the verso of the title-page indicates that the basis for both text and images is a Weimar Jubiläumsausgabe by Hans Timotheus Kroeber in 1915.
