Abstract: en_US I had decided many times not to pick up this $30 book but was tempted this time by the low price. The easy comment is that there are no real fables here. There is, however, a good section of Animal Wisdom. The stories that are best and most fable-like in it are all except the first and last, both of which probably run too long to be considered fables at all. The stories tend to play on the antinomy of human and beast-to the disadvantage of the human.
