- Abstract
- en_US This is a magnificent large-format book, and I am delighted to find such a clean copy. Varty is painstaking, orderly, and careful in reporting the variations found in literature and iconography. Varty gives the book's purpose clearly at the end of the introduction: The chief object of this book is to prove, from iconographical evidence, that Reynard was much better known in England than extant literary evidence suggests (24). This is such a human book! There is a tipped-in colored frontispiece plus 169 black-and-white photographs. I would love to have the opportunity to have Kenneth sign this book!
