- Abstract
- en_US With the second volume (1926), this standard-setting work is the lovely Budé text of 359 Greek fables. Many of them include one or more variants. This first volume contains 144 Greek texts. Compare the two volumes of this work with Chambry's bilingual one-volume edition of 1927 by seeing my notes there. This volume does indeed have The Oak and the Reed as #101. (It will become The Reed and the Olive and occupy #143 in the 1927 work.) And the last of the fables in this volume is The Horse and the Wild Boar, which will be dropped in favor of its doublet, #329, in the later work. I have been on the hunt for this work since I learned ten years ago of the two different Budé versions. Hooray for finding it now! Notice that this book is in a different series (Nouvelle Collection de Textes et Documents publiée sous le patronage de l' Association Guillaume Budé) from that one (Collection des Universités de France publiée sous le patronage de l' Association Guillaume Budé).
