Abstract: en_US This is a fine little reader for those beginning to read. Both Miles and Meisel put plenty of good helps into the story, down to the initial letters on each of the competitors' shirts. Cheering insects hold encouraging signs for the tortoise, who trudges through a full day and a night. The hare changes postures several times in his all-night sleep-through. The tortoise has spectacles, and in the final ceremony is crowned with becoming laurel. Among too many fable books appearing every year, here is a good one!
