Abstract

en_US I enjoy this book more than I thought I would. It contains eight stories of about thirty pages each, with each concretizing the fable announced in its title. I read the first two: The Cock and the Jewel, or Amos Doon's Nugget and The Jackdaw in Borrowed Feathers, or the Vicar's Little Treat. They are decidedly juvenile literature, but these two stories do what they set out to do. In the first, a moderately prosperous grower in Australia sets off for the gold fields and actually finds a great nugget--but does not find what he wants. In the second, a case of cheating leads to a very embarrassing moment. There are three illustrations, listed on the verso of the T of C at the front of the book. At the rear, there are thirty-two pages of Blackie advertisements.
