- Abstract
- en_US Four good pages of Aesop within a fine presentation of Griset's art. A good history of Griset after a quick overview of anthropomorphic animal presentation. Griset's gift was combining grotesque imagination and sober observation (or, respectively, comicality and exactitude). He had a relative lack of interest in humans. Aesop was not a high point in his career. He outlived his death notices by thirty years! He lived under the influence of Grandville and the shadow of Doré.
