- Abstract
- en_US This booklet, meant to invite painting, luckily had no takers. The illustrations are intact! There are here five stories, each two pages in length: OF; TH; MM; FC; BC. Each fable has two illustrations. In two cases (TH; BC), neither line drawing is colored. In two cases (OF; FC), one is colored. In one case (MM), both are colored. Maybe understanding how the publisher printed and bound this pamphlet would help explain this rather random pattern. The rabbit in TH “lay down for a nap just to show his contempt.” MM has as its moral “Never count your chickens before they’re hatched,” articulated to Patty the milkmaid by her mother. FC’s characters have gender: Mistress Crow and Mr. Fox.
