- Abstract
- en_US This little book of 74 pages is the fourth I have read in the series. The story is as unlikely but charming as the first three. Murray is so slow that he is not allowed to run races. He is a mere “ground steward’s horse,” a worker around the track. On the day of the Speed Saddle Cup, several things happen that change life for Murray. First, one of the top horses twists his knee. Secondly, that jockey spots Murray among the spectators and asks him to race. Murray is thrilled! Alas, the stable boy nails Murray’s shoes on backwards. But they discover that he is fast backwards! His jockey uses his tail to guide him, and they win! “Dreams do come true!” Again, Tor Freeman’s colorful illustrations are fun. They may be most engaging here by picturing Murray among the crowds observing preparations for the race. The images of the jockey facing opposite of what is usual are delightful! About 5½” x 7”.
