- Abstract
- en_US Gual here studies versions from Aesop; Phaedrus; Babrius; Roman de Renard; Don Juan Manuel; Arcipreste de Hita; La Fontaine; Samaniego; Lessing; Hartzenbush; Cresp; Grillparzer; and a Russian oral version. Two chapters do specific comparisons: Don Juan Manuel and Arcipreste de Hita in Chapter 5 and Lessing and Hartzenbush in Chapter 8. There are thus three chapters on ancients, three on medieval, and four on moderns. At the end there are chapters on the victory of the fox and on the structure and ideology of fable. I looked through the handling of the three ancient versions and found them insightful. M. Nojgaard seems a principal source of Gual's good reflections. Here is another rich book to look forward to investigating carefully! By the way, this purchase reflects one of the anomalies of present-day book collecting. The cost of this book was €1.70, and postage was €26.81. The postage was thus over 15 times the cost of the book! 138 pages plus a few pages of advertisements.
