- Abstract
- en_US Here is a two-phase story that builds on FC, which his grandmother reads to Filbert the Fox. Both phases turn out negatively for Filbert, who goes out to prove how smart foxes are. His first encounter is with Willie Wolf, who gets Filbert talking about this fable with such focus that Filbert does not realize that Willy eats Filbert's jam sandwich. Filbert next approaches Mr. and Mrs. Crow. The latter holds an egg in her mouth, and Filbert tries questions to get her to release it. Frustrated because Mr. Crow keeps answering, he complains about Mrs. Crow's awful voice, and she drops the egg. But Filbert is not alert, and so the egg comes crashing down on his head and breaks open. Besides, the two crows attack him in a way the crow had not done in the fable. He finally avoids them by diving into a river. He says that he learns some important things: keep an eye on belongings; do not trust people telling you nice things; think before you act; and sometimes learning hurts. The visuals have the look of being transferred from film. Print on demand. 8" x 10".
