- Abstract
- en_US The bibliographical information for this third book of five is identical with that for the first book in this series, Yusuo Yuyan on Aesop from the same years of publication. It even has the same number of pages, 184, but with 72 fables, has two more than the Aesop volume. The cover illustration seems to be “Mice and Weasels” but there is somehow a human involved. This same cover has more claims than I can categorize. Some may indicate the series, like “Rensheng Bidushu” or “Must read in life.” The back cover’s comment on Krylov’s fables is the most positive of the three volumes so far. There are many recognizable illustrations here, like “The Horse, Coach, and Fly” (24); “The Lion, Wolf, and Fox” (61); OR (96); and “Cobbler and Banker” (146). The bear protecting the gardener uses, at least for now, a small branch and leaf to ward off the fly (115). I find more charm in these illustrations than I did in those of the first two volumes of the series. There are many marginal bubbles meant to help parents work with young readers to see the workings and the focus of the fables. 6½” x 9½”.
