Abstract

en_US This was a first exciting find on a very profitable day in Paris. This rainy day started with my discovery that Thierry Corcelle's shop was abandoned. A quick cell phone search found, somewhere nearby, an English language bookshop. I recognized the territory near Opera as the former place of several antiquarian bookshops. They had nothing but recommended San Francisco. There I found this apparently first edition of Uncle Remus in French by Nelson. Its main feature is the eight pasted-in illustrations by Harry Rountree. Perhaps the best of them is the cover, showing Brer Rabbit riding Brer Fox. Canvas bound. 64 pages. An online offering of an inferior copy guesses 1917 for a publication date. 7¾" x 10¼".
