- Abstract
- en_US This is a hardbound version printed in 1977 of a book I also have in paperbound version from 1994. Whereas I have Fratelli Fabbri Editori as the publisher of that version, this version seems to have been published by Masada with a recognition of a 1966 Fratelli Fabbri Editori copyright. Cremonini's artwork continues to delight me. Might that red star of David on the crane doctor's lapel (29) have been a red cross in the European versions? I will include comments made on the Hebrew paperbound version: Here an oversized (9¼" x 13") paperbound version of nineteen of La Fontaine's fables with the delightful art work of Cremonini very well rendered. As in earlier English version from 1958 ("The Fables of Aesop and La Fontaine") using the same material copyrighted by Fratelli Fabbri, this edition has witty and exuberant watercolors. Many feature cute insects having fun around the central action. As I mention there, the milkmaid marries a farmer and so gets all that she had dreamed about! The grapes fall from laughter to a waiting rabbit after the fox goes away.
