Abstract

en_US Here is a fine miniature book. The slightly damaged cloth cover features a large bird looking down at a frog; the back cover has two frogs struggling to carry a large box. Besides an illustrated frontispiece of TMCM and a cat on the title-page, there are 29 other good full page line drawings. Thirty-two fables. Among the best illustrated are The Lion in Love (29), MM with her pail just tipping (67), FG (75), and OF (107). There is a surface tear on 83 that interferes with the illustration. Every fable is illustrated except DLS (73). The frontispiece strangely includes a child mouse, apparently the child of the country mouse. This is a book that was meant to be read. And it has been read! There is both a T of C and a list of illustrations at the beginning. Signed in 1901. 2½ x 3½. 131 pages. A copy of this booklet is up for sale on ABE for $197.
