- Abstract
- en_US This book is similar to one already in the collection twenty-seven years ago. That one was published in 1895 by C. & E. Gernandts Forlags-Aktiebolag. It was, I believe, a revised second edition. Though this edition by a different Stockholm publisher twenty years later seems to contain the same texts for the fables, they are newly typeset. The illustrations do not use various ink colors, as there. Some illustrations, including the frontispiece and the tailpiece at the end of the introduction, are dropped. The introduction drops the last three paragraphs. The T of C at the end now comes after the comments rather than before. Pagination has shifted; the final fable is now on 105, not 118. Once again, 122 fables are presented. The Griset illustrations are quite well rendered. Notice for example the stubborn ass on 47 and the detail of the faces on the facing image of the mountain bringing forth a mouse. As in the earlier edition, they are of two types (see 89 for the two types on one page.) Notice the three wolves jumping for grapes (49). There is some foxing and staining.
