- Abstract
- en_US On an ugly and rainy day in Paris when I was not finding many fable books, I was glad to come across this among books of a much inferior character. Though we already have a copy, I will follow our practice of including a second copy when it is numbered. As I wrote of the first copy, there are four very nice (water-color?) illustrations in this volume: FC (48), the bird wounded with a feather (88), GGE (192), and "The Young Widow" (224). The wounded bird and the widow are the best of these four. The wounded-bird illustration is particularly poignant because the hunters are dressed as aristocrats; they are hunting at best for fun. Many pages are uncut, but the illustrations are all accessible. Not listed in Bassy or Bodemann.
