- Abstract
- en_US The title-page of this unusual book consists of two facing pages, each offering an array of black-and-white scenes around a central scene, each signed by A. Saly or Saby. Curiously, Part 2 appears on the left and Part 1 on the right. The two parts appear then together in the T of C immediately following. Part 1 offers music for six fables: FG; DM; DLS; TH; FC; and FS. Part 2 offers OF, WC, BC, "The Cat and the Fox"; "The Ass and the Little Dog"; and LM. Each score offers a single staff for voice and a double staff for piano. Over the first piece stands this: "Dedicated to the Children of Great Britain." 59 pages. 8½" x 11". The bluecloth cover has a strong circular image of LM with gold inlay. Compare this volume with "A Selection of Aesop's Fables Versified and Set to Music with Symphonies and Accompaniments for the Piano Forte" from a decade or two earlier. Inscribed in 1907. From the early inscriptions and stamp, we are at least the fourth party to have owned this book.
